command prompt:  diskperf -n
Device Manager: View menu > Show Hidden Devices.  Disable "diskperf" driver.
Changes take effect on reboot.

(DISKPERF is disabled by default on WinNT4.  You can use the command 'diskperf' to
check anyway.  You can switch it back on again by reversing these instructions, 
although a reboot in-between would be a wise thing to do)
